How to find the Queen Bee
There are a number of ways to find the Queen Bee in the hive or wild swarm.
1. Large Groups: Start by looking for large groups of worker bees. Worker bees tend to group around the queen to protect her.
2. Physical Appearance: The queen is usually larger in size than all the other bees in the hive, but not always. What you want to look at is the abdomen. Her abdomen and legs will be long. Her wings are short in comparison with her body and do not reach the end of her abdomen. Her back is bald, black and shiny.
3. Location: Queens are in the business of laying eggs, so the most likely place to find your queen is in the nursery.
